The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match. (Official Summary)

My Review:

This is another coming of age book where the two main characters are in college. Abby is trying to start a new, different life than what she grew up with, Travis is everything she is trying to get away from. The chemistry is undeniable between the two of them and even though Abby says she only wants to be friends, you know this is bound to turn into something more. The bet is fun – not believable at one point but still fun. Hey it’s fiction, you can’t expect everything to totally be believable all the time right? Travis has some control issues, if he were a real life character, I’d be worried about how jealous and angry he gets when Abby dates someone else. Again, I know this is fiction but what worries me is that the audience is clearly young women and I worry that they may think that this type of behavior is acceptable in a boyfriend/lover. I enjoyed reading Abby’s character – she was very relatable, not indecisive to the point you want to shake her or so insecure you just want to slap her. She knows who she is and what she wants. I like when young women are portrayed this way. Travis, he is a bit much with the control/jealousy but he is likeable. Maybe that isn’t a good thing if you want young readers to not confuse ficion with reality. Overall though, I couldn’t put this down. It is a fun, light summer read.

A continuation of the novel, Thoughtless…

A lot can happen in a year. You grow, you change, you learn from your mistakes. And Kiera had made a lot of mistakes to learn from. But she had learned, and she was determined to never cause a man pain again, especially the amazing man who currently held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it come out the other side unscathed?

Love is easy…trust is hard. (Goodreads Summary)

My Review:

I had really hoped this book would be better than the first. It literally took me twelve days to get through it and if you know me, I am not a slow reader at all. Many times I would fall asleep shortly after picking it up. The beginning was so slow. I can’t stand when an author takes 1/3 of the book to get me up to speed with what I missed in the first book. Why did I even read the first one if you were going to retell it in the second? When the story did get interesting, after Kellan left, I couldn’t put it down. My favorite movie is P.S. I Love You and Effortless had a lot of what I love about that movie. But then that was it. The story started getting sappy and you could literally see the pretty pink bow that wrapped up the book getting tied and sprinkled with fairy dust. If there is a third, I will not be reading it. This story could have been told so much better, it is a good story. The writing style just wasn’t believable or relatable for me.

For almost two years now, Kiera’s boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she’s ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source – a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he’s purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes…and none of them will ever be the same. (Goodreads Summary)

My Review:

Just finished Thoughtless and I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series but I am hoping it goes beyond what I just read. This is a classic love triangle story but the main character, Keira, got a little annoying. I understood that both guys were great/wonderful in their own way (one guy was safe while the other guy was exciting) and Keira had a tough time deciding between the two. But, some of her back and forth indecisiveness got very tiresome. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the book/story just got a little tired of Keira.
